Easing in with clattering percussion before stripping back to softly played piano notes and Caldarone's exquisite voice, 'Girlfriends' is a deeply personal offering that tackles toxic masculinity with a frighteningly catchy chorus. Caldarone explains: “Girlfriends is a song based on my experiences with men I am close to, and how their fear of speaking out about their difficult feelings has affected our relationships. It let my ex boyfriend and I down and it’s an issue that doesn’t discriminate; men of every age seem to, and often do, suffer from it's wrath.
